Other hardware drivers
The catch-all section for devices that fit no other shelf: sensors, bus controllers, laptop service devices, oddities. If Device Manager shows an unrecognized device and you cannot even tell what it is, odds are it belongs here.

About other hardware drivers
Work on an unknown device always starts the same way: properties - Details - Hardware Ids. The top line is the exact passport of the part; searching the catalog by it tells you what the device is and which package covers it. A name like "I2C HID Device" or "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller" sounds alarming, but behind it there is usually an everyday sensor or a bus from the chipset package.
If the ID finds nothing, the device may be covered by a larger bundle - the chipset package or the laptop maker's utilities - rather than a driver of its own.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I find out what my "Unknown device" is?
- Device Manager - right click - Properties - Details - Hardware Ids. Copy the top line and search the catalog by it - that is the most precise route.
- "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller" - what is that?!
- Usually temperature sensors or a service controller of the chipset. The Intel/AMD chipset package or your laptop maker's package covers it.
- Nothing comes up for my Hardware ID - what next?
- Shorten the query to VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx (drop the SUBSYS part) - the base device will come up. Drivers for such devices often ship inside larger packages rather than on their own.
