ScanSnap iX500 on Windows 11

The iX500 is a popular document scanner from 2012. Its original program, ScanSnap Manager, was withdrawn at the end of 2024 - the old links lead nowhere, which is where the owner panic comes from. An official working path exists: the successor program, ScanSnap Home (version 3.7.0, the offline installer), supports the iX500 and is in our catalog. The file is big - 1.2 GB - but it is the complete official kit.

Why this happens

  • ScanSnap Manager was withdrawn in November 2024, so the software everyone knew cannot be downloaded anymore.
  • Windows carries no built-in driver for the iX500 - without the maker's kit the scanner stays silent.
  • After a Windows reinstall the old software is gone, and its installer cannot be fetched again.

Quick checks first

1Connect over USB for the setup

The iX500 also works over Wi-Fi, but the first setup goes smoother over the USB cable - switch to wireless after everything works.

2Check .NET Framework 4.8

ScanSnap Home needs Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 - a Windows component most systems already have. If it is missing, Windows Update installs it.

The working path is ScanSnap Home 3.7.0: its offline installer supports the iX500 and downloads from the maker's official server - the catalog page below leads to it.

Drivers most often behind this problem

Fixing it manually

Install ScanSnap Home

  1. Download the offline installer from the catalog page - 1.2 GB, from the official server.
  2. Run it and connect the scanner when the setup asks.
  3. Pick a scan profile in ScanSnap Home when it starts.

Check scanning

  1. Load a page and press the Scan button on the scanner itself - the iX500 is built around that one button.
  2. The scan lands in ScanSnap Home; from there it saves to folders, PDF or searchable text.

Know the exact device model?

Search the catalog by the model - ScanSnap iX500.

The model name is on the front of the scanner. Over USB it also reports a Hardware ID (Device Manager → Properties → Details → Hardware Ids) - useful when the scanner shows as an unknown device.

Try for example: ScanSnap iX500 · read the Hardware ID guide · or browse the driver category

Frequently asked questions

▸Where did ScanSnap Manager go?

The maker stopped distributing it in November 2024 and replaced it with ScanSnap Home. The old installers are no longer offered officially.

▸Why is the installer so huge?

It is not just a driver - it is the full kit: the driver, the management program and text recognition in one package.

▸I have the S1500, not the iX500 - will this work for me?

Unfortunately no. ScanSnap Home does not support the S1500, and no official software for it exists anymore - the maker closed that chapter for good. The honest options are third-party scanning software or a newer scanner.

▸Do I need an online account?

The offline installer works without a mandatory cloud account - that is the point of the offline version.
