Canon PIXMA MP280 driver for Windows 11
The PIXMA MP280 is an inkjet printer-scanner from 2010, and Canon released its last driver for it in 2012. If the machine printed fine before a Windows reinstall or upgrade, the hardware is fine - the question is only the driver, and that last package usually installs on Windows 11 by hand.
Why this happens
- Canon no longer updates MP280 drivers, so a fresh Windows has nothing to install automatically.
- A Windows reinstall or upgrade removed the driver that used to work.
- Printing and scanning are separate drivers - one can be missing while the other works.
Quick checks first
1Rule out the simple things
Power on, no blinking alarm lights, ink cartridges seated, USB cable firm on both ends. Blinking lights usually mean paper or ink trouble, not a driver.
2See how Windows shows it
Press Win+X → Device Manager - the list of every device Windows sees. The MP280 under “Printers” with a warning icon, or hanging as an unknown device, means the driver side needs work.
If the machine is healthy but Windows cannot use it, install the last driver Canon released - the catalog page below leads to it on the official server.

Fixing it manually
Install the last Canon package
- Open the PIXMA MP280 page in our catalog - the last driver Canon released, dated 2012, from the official source.
- Run the installer. If Windows 11 refuses: Device Manager → the device → Update driver → “Browse my computer for drivers”.
- Print a test page.
Bring scanning back
- The scanner side needs its own driver part - and for scanning with settings, Canon's IJ Scan Utility app.
- Test with the built-in Windows Scan app first: if it scans, the driver is in place.
Know the exact device model?
Search the catalog by the model - PIXMA MP280 - or by the Hardware ID from Device Manager.
The model name is printed on the front of the machine. Over USB it also reports a Hardware ID - the code that identifies it precisely (Device Manager → Properties → Details → Hardware Ids).
Try for example: PIXMA MP280 · read the Hardware ID guide · or browse the driver category

Frequently asked questions
▸Canon says the model is not supported.
That only means no new drivers will come. The last released one keeps working - and it is exactly what these steps install.
▸It prints with streaks or very pale - is that the driver?
No - streaks and pale prints are about nozzles and cartridges. Run head cleaning from the printer's maintenance menu; the driver plays no part in print quality of that kind.
▸The scanner is not found, printing works.
Two separate drivers. Install the scanner part and the IJ Scan Utility, and the scanner side returns.
